Five former postdocs in non-lab careers

 In News

Science Careers features five people who transitioned from a postdoc to a non-laboratory based career. In the article, people wrote about the essential skills they developed during their postdocs. For example, a few people wrote policy pieces, edited others’ manuscripts, and joined writing associations that helped them enter careers in science policy, editing and medical writing. While some people wished they had figured out their career interests sooner, none regretted doing a postdoc and most found that the postdoc led to important connections and helped with networking. Finally, the five interviewees shared some advice and most recommended finding support in a mentor or peers and being honest with your PI about your career goals.
