6th Annual NIH BEST Meeting

The BEST consortium, in recognition of the remarkable national interest in reform of doctoral training, is excited to open its annual meeting to everyone interested in innovations in the structures of doctoral training.

The open portion of the meeting will be October 24.

Project Presentations

We are seeking abstracts for presentations on:

  • Preliminary projects that are still in the concept phase
  • Data/progress reports from projects that are underway or have been completed (e.g., experiential learning, faculty survey, curriculum development, etc.)
  • Institutional programming (e.g., novel workshops, student-run initiatives, innovative collaborations, etc.)

The presentations can be given by individuals, single-institution groups, or multi-institution groups. We hope that everyone that submits an abstract will be able to present; therefore, the time allotted for each presentation will be determined after the submission deadline. We anticipate presentation length will be between 5 and 15 minutes.

Note to consortium members: A submitted Project Notification Form is not required to present on a given topic.

  • From BWI, take the B30 Metrobus (toward Greenbelt Station) to Greenbelt Station. Exit bus and walk 0.1 miles to Greenbelt Metro Station. Take the Green Line (toward Branch Avenue) to Fort Totten Metro Station. Take the Red Line (toward Shady Grove) to Bethesda Metro Station. SmarTrip® card

Each passenger must buy a SmarTrip® card to travel in the system; this is good for both the Metrorail and the Metrobus. Guides for purchasing a SmarTrip® card are posted on the vending machines in each station. The SmarTrip® card is required for entering and exiting the Metrorail Station. Complete color-coded maps of the Metrorail lines (see image below) are posted throughout the station and in the railcars. Station attendants are on duty at each station and can provide additional information on request.

Directions from Bethesda Metro Station to the Doubletree Hotel

  • Walking: Once you exit the Bethesda Metro Station, walk North on Wisconsin Avenue. Turn left on Cordell Avenue, and you will have reached your destination.
  • Bus: Metrorail riders who transfer to Metrobus will receive a discount of 50¢ if they use a SmarTrip® card. From Bethesda Metro Center, walk about 0.1 miles to Old Georgetown Road and Commerce Lane. Take the J2 Montgomery Mall Metrobus (departs approximately every 15 minutes) to Wisconsin Avenue and West Virginia Avenue. The Doubletree hotel is 500 feet away. The estimated fare is $2.00 per person, and the expected travel time is 10 minutes.
