The Scientist covers Career Development & BEST
The Scientist article entitle “Making the Most of School” covers the importance of career development and the ways different institutions are helping their graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. NIH started the BEST program to help trainees acquire the additional skills needed for employment. Many BEST schools are featured, including Michigan State University’s internship program, University of Massachusetts Medical School’s use of Individualized Development Plans (IDPs), University of California San Francisco’s focus on early planning, and University of Chicago’s career successes. Schools without BEST grants are also seeing the importance of career development programming and find support from foundations such as the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.
