Synopsis of The Scientist’s 2017 Salary Survey
Early last month, The Scientist published an article reviewing their 2017 Life Science Salary Survey. According to the report, the U.S & Canada have the highest salary and the highest percentage of individuals receiving a raise this past year. Examining the U.S. data by sector, individuals with industry jobs have the highest wages with nonacademic jobs coming in second.
The survey is not all good news for the U.S. life science job market; not surprisingly, results indicate a gender gap in all three sectors (academic, industry, and nonacademic). The Scientist stated this conclusion is based on survey responses but believes the results can be extrapolated.
